Trend Alert: Braided Bangs

Here is my latest post for Coveted Canvas...

Trend Alert: Braided Bangs

Every time I watch The Hills – I sigh with envy at Lauren Conrad’s effortless beauty. She is so natural, yet so glamorous. So recently when my fringe was that little bit too long, I took a leaf out of Lauren’s book and tried her braided bang look.

Here is a simple step by step guide for creating the perfect braided bang:

1. Part your hair on one side.

2. Section off your fringe in the desired width you want (the bigger the section, the thicker the braid will be)

3. Once sectioned, take a piece of hair from the centre of your fringe. Use it as your centre and start the braid by going from left to right in a crisscross motion.

4. Add more hair into each section as you go – make sure you are pulling the hair downward – so that the braid is tight and flat.

5. Once the desired hair is in the braid – pull the braid toward the ear and secure with a bobby pin.

I must confess – it was a little tricky at first, but with the aid of bobby pins and hairspray I managed to pull off a sleek and chic braided bang ala LC.

LC isn’t the only celeb who is on the braided bang bandwagon – celebs including Pixie Lott, Mary Kate Olsen and Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts have recently been spotted sporting this chic do.

Remember practice makes perfect!

Product of the Day

I have just started contributing the fabulous Beauty Blog Coveted Canvas. Here is my latest article:

For the past four years I have been religiously using Stage Line Matte Pure Makeup Remover. So you could imagine my distress when it recently became discontinued (R.I.P). Hoping it would be as fab as its predecessor I counted my losses and tried the new Stage Line replacement. To my horror it was terrible. Firstly, it was a milky substance rather than the gel which I was used to. Secondly, it left me with two hideously looking black eyes. I was devastated. What was I going to do?

I was suggested to try millions of products. And I did so. I tried everything from Neutrogena to Clinique, from Garnier to Estee Lauder. I tried wipes, gels, milks, towelettes and even oils. You name it i tried it! But I kept getting the same dissatisfied result. Fail after fail after fail. Nothing was giving me the cleansed perfection which I was pining for. I was then introduced to Napoleon Perdis’ Marshmallow Foam Makeup Remover. At first like the rest, I hated it. It was a foam and all I wanted was the Stage Line Gel …but to my amazement, after using it, my face was cleansed and no mascara residue was anywhere in sight. Success!

The product did exactly as its name suggested. It foamed and removed all traces of my makeup – including my stubborn waterproof mascara. It was gentle on my skin and the friendly foam stripped and removed all traces of makeup without leaving my skin feel dry. I have now been using this product for the past three months and will never use anything else. When I go to Sydney in a few days time, this product is one which I won’t be leaving without!

Gigantor

I am 176cm tall...which is reasonably tall for a female...and my boyfriend is about 180cm...so as you can tell, wearing heels is an issue...as i become a giant and tower over everyone...including him. But should this stop me from wearing heels?

Should i sacrifice wearing glamorous footwear just so i look 'normal'...

Nicole is taller than Keith and Sophie is taller than Jamie...the pics may look a little odd...but we cant help that we are blessed with long legs!

What are your thoughts?

The crimped look

A craze which is sweeping my friendship circle at the moment is the crimped hair look. Inspired by my hairdresser sister (Hi Mudd!), the look is created with a triple barrel ceramic curling iron. What do you think? HOT or NOT?

This is moi sporting my crimped look at a friends 21st in June:

This is my dear friend Louise sporting the look at a friends 21st in May:

And this is the lovely Skye also sporting a crimped do' at our friends 21st in June:

The picture below is the one which i have been using. It's from Hi Curl - and it is FAB.

But i must warn...somehow everytime i use the darn thing i manage to burn some part of my face. Recently i have been sporting a new look...two burns on the forehead and one on my cheek...not so chic...but my sister, mother and boyfriend all ask "how do you continue to burn your face whilst crimping your hair?"...hmmm well i continue to ask myself that too.

But practice makes PERFECT! Next time i will endeavour to come out with zero burns to my face and body...fingers crossed!

It is just me...

Hmmm well when I have an article of clothing which I cant be bothered putting away...I always put it in the wash bin...even when its 100% perfectly clean.

I do this to avoid hanging it up or putting it away...but sometimes the item remains in this same cycle for months...because I cant decide a) whether to keep it or not b) whether i will wear it again c) where it belongs in my wardrobe!

Does anyone else do this...or is it just me?

Dream wardrobes...

If you are anything like me, you have shoes, scarves, dresses, coats and bangles coming out your ears.

But one thing which really annoys me is my lack of space to put everything!!Still living at home, i am burdened with a teeny tiny bedroom which means an even teeny tinier wardrobe...*sigh.

So when i move out at the end of the year...i will aspire to turn the spare bedroom into somewhat of a closet heaven...introducing DREAM WARDROBES:

Oh Paula Abdul...how i dream to a) own that many pairs of shoes b) own that many belts c) have the amazing wardrobe which you can SIT in!!!

Oh Fergie....how i am envious AGAIN. Lovinggggg the sections of garments not to mention the ample space to see them all!!

Would you expect anything less from the Diva herself - Miss Mariah Carey??

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh HEAVEN!!

Who knew Cindy was so wise...

One of my fave quotes:

"Have faith in your dreams and someday your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true" - Cinderella

One thing which gets my goat...

I dont understand the trend of leggings as pants. It is vulgar and makes me cringe...

For Uni, we were asked to create an editorial article. On any subject we liked. Here is an excerpt from my article titled "Leggings are NOT pants"

"This isn’t a difficult concept, so why do copious amounts of women continue to wear them and continue to give everyone an eyeful? We could blame the notorious pants hater Lindsay Lohan, yet I think the blame lies with thee ole jolly Robin Hood. Hood was known for his plummy quips and extraordinary bowmanship, but most importantly his spandex green tights. Whether you swooned or crooned at the sight of Hood’s very prevalent genitals, somehow the message of these tights got lost in translation. In the ancient times, they were worn to show a man’s ‘masculinity’ but today in 2010, like men in skinny jeans, legging-clad blokes are a growing breed. And one might say, aim to show a man’s somewhat lack of masculinity…"

Even though i'm a biter...

So even though my nails are never long and luscious...I do still appreciate a good nail polish.

At the moment I am a huge fan of Napoleon Perdis Chandelier Shine in 'Rockstar Pink'.

Equally loving the matching gloss!

Tres Chic!

Trend spotting...

So the lovely lass on the right is Karley.

And upon her recent trip to Sydney, she found herself in awe of the Sydney-siders style.

Having immersed herself in the state for a weekend, I am pretty impressed with her latest look. She has my vote for Best Dressed AW 2010 so far.

Loving the leather look skirt, the white ruffle blouse and the ankle booties. Not to mention her relaxed tousseled hair which acts as the perfect accessory.

My tip: for colder months, team with patterned stockings and cropped jacket.

Oh...how I have changed!

So I have been scouring my photo albums for pictures for my 21st birthday.

Wow - have I found some shockers!

I sure am glad that I am collating my pictures - as I know mum would include some absolutley hideous ones...so you will only see some 'mildly' hideous ones.

So i was pretty much bald until I was two...love the little helicopter on my head. Thanks Mum!

Nawwww so stylish!

So I may have been known to chuck a tanty or five...

Looking a little bit sweeter on my first day of kindy!

Loved pink then...and still love it now!

What's in my makeup bag...

Thanks to the lovely Di @ WTM, I am now a Napoleon Perdis convert!

And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

But there are a few items which are not NP which I absolutley swear by!

Here is my makeup must haves:

1. The Foundation Brush

Easily my best buy. I use it every single day. It makes my product last longer and gives me a
flawless finish. Worth it's weight in gold.

NP - Artist Foundation Brush Sable 19b $68

2. The Blush Brush

Such an easy way to apply the perfect rosy cheek. Its meant for bronzer but I achieve a healthy glow with this little gem. (Plus its pink!)

NP - Bronzing brush $52

3. The Primer

The secret to making your makeup last longer. Applied after moisturiser and before foundation, this primer will have you looking fresh and primed...even after a 12 hour day.

NP - Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer $49.50

4. The Foundation

I have been using Revlon foundation for years - and am yet to have a bad word to say about it. It is the perfect consistency, and gives me a natural and fresh look. And the best thing is: it has an SPF 25 in it!

Revlon - Color Stay Active # Buff

5. The Powder

A silk finish powder foundation compact, 3-in-1 that conceals, covers and sets. Aka the best powder I have ever used.

NP - Camera Finish #Look 1 $59

6. The Blush

It's actually an eye shadow, but this shade compliments my skin tone perfectly!

NP - Colour Disc #66 Heather $25

6. The Eyeliner

Out of all my makeup - when it comes to eyeliner, I am probably the most fussiest. It has to be perfect. I always used to use pencil, but now I am a liquid convert. This one gives you a silky precision look...and lasts forever!

NP - Neo Noir Liquid Liner #Black $28

7. The Mascara

You can't go wrong with Maybelline! This mascara never clumps, never smudges, just stays on looking absolutley glam! Gives my lashes the oomfph that they so desire.

Maybelline - Lash Stiletto Mascara in Black $18.95

8. The Lipgloss

I must confess. I am an avid lipgloss swapper. I use anything and everything. Although my faves do include Maybelline, Rimmel, Lucas Paw Paw, Napoleon Perdis and most recently, WTM's Strawberry and Vanilla flavoured lipbalms! Which are a steal at only $3!!!

WTM - Strawberry and Vanilla Lipbalm $3 (08 9250 5366)

And my biggest secret:

COTTON BUDS - I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT THEM!
They are actually the best things known to man. I could not do my makeup without them!
